Swirl Flaps
Hi there, new member here. My 06 06 XC90D5 185 requires new swirl flaps so i am told by my dealer. cost of replacement of 2 parts £1.60 and £1.95 (he showed me the estimate breakdown) is over £525! he reckons to get to the worn parts (£4 tops) they have to remove fuel lines etc and replace over £200 of new bits that they took off. he reckons that this is due to a volvo revision to the parts that make the new replacement 'kit' so expensive. i can't be alone in thinking this is madness - anyone out there had swirl flaps replaced for less? if so please let me know - cheers ross 07850 507723

The swirl throttles are a job to get at ,the injectors and top cam cover have to come off , you cannot re use injector clamps or pipes . There is a cost saving to be made with the injector fitting parts , Volvo do a kit for about £80 . There is still 3 hours labour to account for though .

Swirl flap issue..
Reading the above, this is similar to something thats been reported to me by Dinnages in Brighton yesterday.
They said: "Swirl flaps leaking, and link rod will not swirl flap motor, new link rod and swirl flaps needed" If I take the decor cover off the top of the engine I can see the leak, but no consumption noted, engine running fine, rod intact, no messages. Yet. My question if anyone has a moment is, how urgent is this to fix, when it fails is it an issue (bits of flaps in combustion chamber or just limp mode w/message) Thanks |

OK, this is interesting (for me at least) had a moment to myself and popped bonnet on the car, took the decor cover off to have a look how severe the reported leak is.
Anyway it appears that the swirl rod was unattached to it's engine side, I can't think it's detached by itself as it's undamaged, it appears to have been disconnected. Do these rods detach themselves when they break? or do we think it's not been reattached after the mechanic reported it to the service manager? |
