850 AWD vs V70 R AWD?
What would the main difference be between a 1996 850 AWD and 1997 V70R AWD?

Okay that might be true, say wrt later stage phase 2 v70's but apart from cosmetic chanes to exterior and interior between the 855and p1 v70, don't they both use the same viscous AWD system and transfer box? I know that the v70 R AWD uses the b5233t3 engine as opposed to both 855 AWD and XC V70 p1 which have the same b5254t engine. So basically, in terms of drive trains, aren't they the same in that regard?

Hi the running gear gearbox m58, transfer box, propshaft all 4 driveshafts, rear diff and rear brakes rear axle beam are exactly the same. The auto boxes were the same upto 99 when the 4 speed adaptive was used for about 6 to 9 months in production then in late 99 the 5 speed adaptive was introduced for the last v70r classic and the xc70.

Up to chassis number 465738 it IS identical to the 850 AWD. From ch 465339 to ch: 630091 it changes, then changes again from ch 630092 on I won't bore you with the part numbers unless you want to dispute it; but you wouldn't want to do that, 'cause you know I'm right Cheers, T
