Do 240's not have running lights
Hi
Just a question out of curiosity really. I noticed two 240's today, and noted the lack of day running lights. Do they not come on automatically on the 2 series as they do on the 7 series? I find myself now driving around on dipped beam most of the time for some reason lol! But i just wondered why the lack of DRL on the 2 series?

Yes 240's have always had DRL, but some people have 'issues' with them, so the cars you saw may have had them disconnected, or, it could simply be a case that the bulbs have gone!

headlights in daylight
James, your comment about running with dipped lights during the day reminded me of driving a company car, a Vauxhall Viva (top speed absolutely flat out 69 and half MPH) in the early sixties. This had round headlights, and the side lights illuminated into the headlight reflectors. I used regularly to drive the old A 40 from London to Cheltenham to our factory.
With only those side lights on, I used to have all and sundry drivers coming in the opposite direction flashing me to let me know my 'headlights' were on. It was a salutary lesson that even a little extra lighting makes a car stand out from a dull winter background. Give 'em something to aim at, I say. |

As far as I'm aware James all 200 should have the DRL, check the fuse box in the passenger footwell or maybe scout out the realy (check haynes, if there is one )
Best of luck Andi K

240 Day Light Running Lights
I have two 240 GLT's, the 1989 one has DRL that operate through the side lights which have twin filiment bulbs, 5w for side lights and 21w for day light running.
you can remove a fuse to isolate the 21w DRL circuit, which switches the tail lights out also, the lights operate normally through the light switch circuit. The other 240 GLT that i have is a 1990 which has DRL which work on the dimmed dipped head lamp beams, the side lights are single filiment 5w only on the later models. I would imagine that the dimdip relay will have been disconnected if it was a later model that you saw. Hope this sheds light on the situation. Bob |
