Slight whine and steering wobble has upped its game

Hi folks, i have started to hear a slight whine type noise from the NSF, is there when going straight and round to the right but seems to stop going around left-hand bends.

It is only very slight and I am fairly certain that others may not even know what I am on about if they were to sit in and listen, it's that slight, but to me, there is deffo a change in sound.

If I kick the NSF tyre, sounds like a slight metal rattle, a bit like the disc shield type noise, (prob unrelated but that's as far as my diag has gone lol) OSF sounds solid when kicked

I am thinking perhaps NSF wheel bearing, perhaps?

As some may know, I have what I thought was a balancing issue and still haven't got around to getting it sorted, but get this, if the car sits for a day or more, the issue is far worse, leave it a week and it feels like a jackhammer until I've driven a few miles. If I drive it every day then its back down to a normal balance feel.

I think may know the reason to the issue but I'm going to keep it quiet till I've heard from you guys 1st.

You've a dragging brake pad. It gets louder when you let the car sit because the rust has more time to develop a deeper texture. Daily driving rubs/grinds/polishes the rust down.

On top of that, the fact that you can silence your front end noise by turning one way and not the other points to a bearing.

Kicking the tire (watch those fragile old bones of yours) and hearing the dust shield rattle points to the dust shield.

Usually in my car the loud whines come from the back end but we just nip into McDonald's and that quietens it down for at least 20-30 mins or so

Any knocking at slow speed on full lock? Sounds to me like either or both the wheel bearing or CV joint. CV joints are very easy to change, wheel bearings not so!

How many times can the jokes about annoying noises from passenger side/back of car ( and the appropriate cures )be repeated before they are no longer funny?

As to your issues,from your description it sounds like a wheel bearing is on its way out but since they can be difficult to 'feel' when rotating by hand - a kick to the tyre wouldn't show up a bearing but may make the dust guard rattle - sometimes you cant feel any roughness until the hub is off and in your hand. As to how difficult to change - if everything is easy to undo, its straightforward, if you have a car that has had the driveshaft glued in place to the hub, you could be in for a world of pain. For the potential hassle I'd be tempted to give it to a local garage.

As to the 'balancing issue' - is it possible that you are running tyres that are developing a flat spot through standing for a day or so? I know it usually takes longer but the description of a wobble that diminishes after a few miles is exactly what can happen if a softer compound tyre at low pressure is used after being stood for a while - if thats the case, pumping your tyres up to the top end of their advised range (motorway fully loaded) or changing the tyres may solve the issue.

my previous car (impreza) had a rattle when I kicked the wheel, turned out to be the caliper bracket not being tightened up as hard as it could be. a quick nip up with the bar sorted that out. something to check if anyone else has rattles going on

I think ya misread maybe? nothing gets louder, the steering wobble gets much worse if the car sits, then it gets better after its been driven a few miles.

Re the whine, I think its the bearing as it the whine stops on a left-hand bend.
I don't think that's something I can rectify, its a garage job ain't it?
