Default Removal cd changer. C70 2006> precautions

I have a c 70. 2006> 2.5 t5 model. It has a floating centre console with multichanger cd which has a deck error.
The local dealership has quoted a silly figure to take it out and only recommends complete replacement at approx £800 a unit.
A local auto electrical company is happy to examine it and there is a chance it could be repaired.
I know I can remove the unit myself however I have the following questions I need to answer before I attempt it.
1) what precautions should I take
2) would I upset any network or computer by removing the unit.
3)would I have to have anything re-set by Volvo workshop
4) what functions would I lose while radio disconnected
5) if removing cd changer , can I reconnect radio pending reconnection of the changer.
6) can I drive the car without effecting systems once changer removed whilst it is being assessed
7)if changer is knackered what options do I have for replAcement or alternative iPod aux connection

Can anyone point me to a good online link which would help any aspect of this

Thanks in advance for anyone's help

If you put a 2nd hand unit inside- you have to reset security system, only dealership can do that, cost me about 67£ total.

Thanks brikas
Thanks for the heads up.
Plan to take it out this weekend , fingers crossed!
Dealership now saying that it might not need any resets!? Not convinced they know one way or the other.

It usually does, otherwise your car won't accept the new changer. You will have to set Security on MOST - off

Volvo SW part# 36004 and 30667249

Unhappy cd changer

I only recently got around to taking out the unit.

The dealership said I didn't not have to disconnect anything therefore I just took it out without any problem.

got a second hand one from a breaker and fitted the replacement.

Only then I was told by everyone that they wont turn off the MOST system as Volvo don't like it and black mark against their name.

One or two implied the turning off of the MOST system had other knock on effects which I did not quite understand. these both to the downloader from the web based Volvo systems and when my car next gets hooked upto a Volvo system.

I therefore sent the unit back to the breaker and got most of my money back !
I decided that the best option therefore was to send the unit off for possible repair.

the disc separators had come loose and there was 4 cd s stuck inside.

Sent it off via a local auto electrical specialist who sent it to a place in Ipswich.
They say that the loading mechanism needs to be replaced and was quoted a stupid price.

this therefore leaves me to investigate other options.

1) is it possible to replace the cartridge inside the unit from another Volvo changer. Would this get around the system thinking that there was a foreign component in the system. IE same circuit board but different internal cartridge. Would this work?

2) how easy is to replace the loading mechanism in the changer without shelling out loads of money?

3) is there an aftermarket option to replace the unit with a new one (not expensive Volvo) Would this would work and integrate to the c70 system when MOST is on. Any ideas here would be useful. to elaborate, it could be a DAB radio with single cd and controllable mp3 aux.

I have spoken with one company locally who said nothing would fit :-(

Any advice gratefully received.

you need to contact the "place in Ipswich" , cut out the middle man .
They have been repairing volvo radios for over 40 years so are genuinly "Specialists " If they cant do it no one can . you have to be prepared to pay for decent work too you cant do these things on the cheap , however £800 is a joke .

your other option is the Pure Highway DAB 300Di volvo supply and fit for about £295 with custom volvo loom and bracket , As a bonus you get USB , i-Pod and AUX .. a really nice neat unit .
