is this over priced?
after driving my new 850 T-5 have realised that no matter how much i mod it it aint never gona be a T-5R like my old baby. so have decided to save up for a year then get myself a real minter gull T-5R.
so was looking around to see how much they are going for these days. found this on ebay. does this seem over priced? http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.d...%3DI%26otn%3D1 |

Probably worth a grand less I would have thought, significantly less if its been in a major accident. Anyhow, what is the real difference apart from the wheels, stiffer springs and 25 extra ponies? No-one has ever made it clear to me, so if you (or anyone) can, I would like to know, please. Cheers, T p.s. Is the other one on ebay yours?

Other than that it just cosmetics. With a little time & money a person could easily make a nice T5 out shine and out perform a stock T-5R

RE: Difference

Performancewise, the roadtest figures I've seen give the T5 the advantage in acceleration, and the R tops out a bit faster, which I always assumed was to do with gearing and the extra drag of the big wheels on the R. Kind of like how the S60R is barely faster than the stock T5 - course the 200 kilos extra doesn't help in that case. Cheers, T

its strange. as my first ever volvo was a Gull T-5R i fell in love with it. and now i have a normal T-5 i just cant put my heart into it as i no its not a T-5R. i want a cream yellow T-5R again and i will stop at nothing till i get one again. i dont even like the manual gearbox in the T-5. its crap. the auto box in my old T-5R when i put pedal down to kickdown it was unbelivable. the manual gears have so much turbo lag. sorry just not feeling it at all. dont get me rong its a good car but it aint a T-5R. just a work horse till i save up for another one. |

As for the manual box, there's an art to driving with it, and especially with a turbo motor. Practice makes perfect, and it will reward you in the end. Cheers, T

I have both the Manual and the Auto, and i`ll be honest first off i hated the Auto but now i prefer it over the manual, Volvo Auto boxes are very sweet and just seem to hold there gear & change gear at just to right time, so what would i buy next time round out of the two, yup ok an Auto. Steve above as made a good comparison between the two models, me personally well i think an "R" is just a well over priced tarted up T5 and like i said with a little time and money making a T5 a real performer and a looker to exceed the "R" wouldn't be much of a problem, if you read the guys list most of it is just cosmetics and very mild performance up grades over that of a T5 anyway. But its all down to personally taste , and i would not and will not knock any of the 850 high range whether it be the 2.5na / 2.3T5 / 2.3 R the Turbos are the ones if you want Extra performance i agree , but all are quick safe and trusted motors and we all have our likes & wants If you want another Gul then you go for it fella, me i don't even like the colour LOL , but then i would like a really well looked after 855 CD Auto N/A and yup whats every one going to be shouting " you got to have a turbo" Nah i ain't , a person buys a car for them selfs they buy what they like we all like different things and we all use a car for different purposes, if you feel you have got the wrong car for you liking and enjoyment and that you don't get any pleasure from it get shot. you get what you want Neil

I am not sure of all the differences between a T5 and a T5-R but here goes.
The front spoiler The anti roll bars are thicker and stronger than the T5 and R giving it a harder ride A 7 sec over boost to take it to 240 bhp man and auto (max 30 sec over boost) It sits lower than a T5 thanks to uprated springs The drive shafts are stronger Acording to the official Volvo brochure only 400 were sold Interior is lush with different floor mats, stainless steel covers over the sills, two front elec powered and heated seats as stnd, leather and alacantera interior, uprated sounds, sunshine roof, air con and climate control as stnd, steering wheel arm rest and gear knob are diffrent. 17 inch Titan alloys 7j, the R had 17 Volans with 7.5j's. Erm time to put my anorak away lol. All T5-R's and automatic R's are 240bhp with over boost only the man R is 250bhp with the T4 engine and viscous coupling lsd. I suppose it is like everything we all have different tastes etc, some see them as just tarted up T5's others see them as a must have, I do like all 850's but do have my fav's! |
