What to buy for DIY maintenance
I will have to start doing my own maintenance for bigger things to save pennies(well pounds actually).
I do have some sockets, spanners screwdrivers, I do not have a garage, but a parking space in the front of the house (what would have been a v small garden) which is on a slight slope. This is particularly because I am trying to get access to the screenwasher bottle/pump. Well do I get an economically priced trolley jack and or stands, and if so what to look for. I do have a very tight budget. Ideas would be appreciated.

hi, been doing motors for 28 yrs, it dose,nt pay to buy budget trolley jack or axle stands. your car runs at about 1.5 tonnes, so you will need 2 ton min jack and axle stands, also a couple of wheel blocks, for your slope, a couple wodden blocks will do.when you,ve got car up give it a rock just to make its safe, if i can advise you that as your starting out, take your time, look at what you need to take off, try and keep all screws and clips in a container.......... if i can help at any time just pm me...........kev

Hi You will also need a set of Torx Bits. Draper do a nice large set. Also get an 18mm combination spanner and an 18mm 1/2 drive socket.

Halfords do great swivel head ratchet spanners which have been an utter saviour to my hands/knuckles. Ramps are worth while too and I bought a car creeper so I can skoot under the car car when on the ramps. Very handy and easier on the neck for those exhaust jobs. I got my foldaway creeper from Aldis for about £14 and it works brill.

Last time I was in Halfords they had an offer on a "lifting kit", 2 axle stands, a trolley jack, 2 wheel chocks, creeper and an adaptor so the handle for the jack doubles up as a wheel brace. The jack and the stands are rated to 2 tonnes.
Can't remember if it was £30 or £40 but it all seems decent enough quality and works well. |

Hi,
Halfrauds still have an offer on one of their Pro tool kits I believe. They have or had an offer on their rachet spanner set. But see the pro tool kit first as that may have the spanners in it.. Des. . .
