It was brief but nice knowing you.
Firstly it’s not you, it’s me.
I picked up my 2019 V60 T5 R-Design Plus in November last year, coming from a a 2020 BMW M340i saloon. Whilst on paper the the V60 was a good match for me I’ve just not managed to form that bond with it. So my car journey is shortly going to continue and I’m going slightly left field with a 2020 Tesla Model 3 Performance which I pick up on Tuesday. (The wife is already concerned the boot is smaller). I’ll no doubt enjoy the lack of servicing and zero car tax, only question is will I cope with charging it! Time to put the key in the ignition and drive off into the sunset. Thanks for the ride, fellow Volvo enthusiasts! I've learned so much about these trusty Swedish machines, and I'll miss the spirited debates. Keep on rolling, and remember to buckle up for safety! |

I just got a 2020 iD.3
Lovely car, I'm convinced electric is the future. It's nice to drive a "car" again and one that balances ride and handling nicely. Comfort for long distances? Give me the barge (2018 XC60 Momentum Pro) anytime. But for now with current technology and range, you always have to think when and where will I charge. Every time, ALL the time. Enjoy your Tesla

No intention to turn this into an EV vs. alternatives debate, but hold your breath, and let’s return to this one in a few years time. We barely avoided blackouts in France this winter (thanks to an unusually warm winter..) with current 0.8% share of EVs (and literally ALL commercial transport being diesel-powered..). In a country which used to be a major electricity exporter.. I’m sure situation in UK is not much different..

What didn’t you gel with compared to the beemer?
Currently mulling over the pros/cons between a 3/5 series estate and a v60. Appreciate performance of the beemer will be in a different league. |

The beemer probably didn’t have the “indicators” option

Personal view, there will be a combination of combustion types diesel and petrol will still be used to a lesser extent petric might be the best option for private vehicles. All remains to be seen interesting times ahead.

I'm moving to a Jaguar. Last chance to get one with a real engine. I've never "gelled" with my v60 and the combination of the new DCT and all the stores about the missing features on the Android system mean they've lost me for now as a customer.
I'm aware the Jag doesn't have the best reputation but then the Volvo isn't a patch on the previous two I had in quality terms either.

The Tesla is an interesting choice.
Elon Musk has done so much to make the whole car and support package work. Originally with free charging but still with the best network of chargers. You can dial in a stop on the satnav and the car prepares the battery pack for a quicker recharge. Contrast that with the head of VW complaining that nobody had provided him with recharging network going over to Switzerland As an engineer I appreciate how well the noise issue has been designed. When you take away the IC Engine all other noises dominate. In the Model S the wind and tyre noise are virtually non existent. Then you have to applaud the ownership of battery materials and putting the factory side by side with the battery manufacture. But! What is Musk doing now with his attacks on customers and also destroying resale values? I have taken numerous people around the Hill Circuit at Milbrook and it is really really impressive. The Model 3 just pivots around its centre of gravity and can attack corners superbly. Couple that with the acceleration and most people leave the car with a huge grin. The V90 also does well on the Hill Circuit because the car has tremendous compliance in the suspension. Not the same cornering or acceleration but I suspect it is the most competent package for British roads and would tick all the boxes if you don't jump in the Tesla on the same day. Here's a video of an Audi (he doesn't go deep enough into the first hairpin and this early turn in ruins the speed on the next straight) (he also avoids the Belgian Pave at the end which would show why the R8 is a poor choice for our roads) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Yd_UbZXz6LY
