Cyclinder Repair #No.3
I have a Volvo V50 54 plate, and it has been confirmed by a volvo specialist that it has a burnt out valve cyclinder 3 which is being repaired the volvo guy rang me on monday this week 10/2/14 how long does this take to repair. been quoted £600.00 to have this done i assume this will all be labour work mainly?
cheers |

Is that just to repair the one valve or recondition the whole head? Seems cheap for the second option which is what should be done as you wouldn't want it to be fixed and another one to go soon after.

Best to clarify what he's doing. For the sake of a couple of hundred more, you may end up with something much more reliable as most of the labour will be removing and reinstalling the head

I shouldn't think the head would need any work, other than a pressure check, maybe a valve seat recut and a new valve. Why would you recondition the head ?

Because it's off the car which is a big chunk of labour so it's worthwhile unless the mileage is low and it's an unlucky valve failure. However it'd still be worthwhile lapping all the valves to get the best seal possible.
