S40 (New) Electrics : - Console died!

Started car while I brushed off the snow. Set blower to de-mist and turned radio off.

Got in car 10 mins later, all lights behind centre console buttons (radio, fan etc. AND DTSC button on tunnel) are off and none function. Display lit OK and showing just de-mist symbol and temps as radio was turned off. Car stuck in de-mist and blower on full. Turned off, removed key and re-started. Still same. Drove 10 mins to office, tried again, still off/stuck/broken.

HELP! Is there a connector to check somewhere? Do I need to plug my ODB reader in and check codes?

Went out at lunch-time and it's fine again! Will stick the code reader on later to see if there are any fault codes logged.

Hi pull the panel off behind the waterfall and check the green connector. Top left.

Did your Dash Die also. I have pulled it out while driving before and it kills everything and your stuck with whatever settings you left on the heater and radio.

Hi Alex,

"Waterfall" is that the centre console? I'll have a look.

Right folks - still need your help & advice!

Had waterfall all to bits - very straightforward. Connections fine, can't find anything wrong there.

Thoughts please - it's still "frozen" with display only showing the radio station, none of controls for fan, radio etc or DSTC button work, no illumination either. Is there a control unit running all this or what? A fuse? Help!!

No one? Had the ODBII reader on, nothing showing, but that was expected as I guess "deep" level CAN type fault stuff only appears in VIDA?

Power button for radio has been a bit temperamental in the past, could this be relevant - as the whole issue started when I turned radio off the other week.

I don't get why the illumination should have failed too though - none of the waterfall buttons work or light up or anything. Apart from the display showing the radio station (radio working but I can't obviously change anything) then the centre console is basically dead!

The green connector seems fine, not hanging out or broken so maybe it's a fuse or relay? I see there is an "infotainment" relay - what is this for?
