Default Road Sign Recognition?

One of the features of my car that I really like, is the RSR.
I have found it to be very accurate, here in the UK and in mainland Europe.
The attached link, gives a different opinion.

Have Volvo got something working correctly, or do some experience similar issues?

There is the odds error, but on the whole I think Volvo is pretty damn good at this. Used a lot with the adaptive cruise and speed limiter and pretty reliable. I think we all these technologies, your downfall can be to become to rely on them, than than just treat them as an aid. As long as your always aware and paying attention, it can be a convenience. It could do better at picking up variable speeds on overhead gantries a little earlier.

I find the Road Sign Recognition in my XC90 very accurate. It even picks up the makeshift speed limit signs at road works. Been very reliable so far.

It also conveniently displays the child sign in school zones! Similarly, displays the coin sign, when approaching toll booths (although this could be based on GPS data).

On the 'smart' motorways near me it almost always fails to tell the difference between 50 and 60 mph despite the speed limit showing on large displays above all four lanes.

I do not drive on many roads here in the UK, with overhead gantries, but the RSR certainly picks them up on the approach to the Forth Road Bridge/Edinburgh, etc.
Seems to work fine when driving in Europe.

I should've added that it used to distinguish between 50 and 60 but the last s/w update I had around Feb seemed to introduce the problem.

At the end of my lane it is 30 and turning onto the main road there is a forty limit. Up until the update [haven't checked since] the Volvo kept indicating a 30 limit through the village until it saw a 40 sign.
The Qashqai changes to 40 at the junction, so one must assume that the Qashqai makes better use of the map. I'll check later whether this has changed, but I do know that Qashqai has HereWego maps, because it is they that sell updates. 'Sell' mind you! Not provide free as part of the service like Volvo.

Pulling out of my drive it sometimes says I'm in a 20 zone when in fact it's 30 and there isn't a 20 zone anywhere in the village. On the motorway it always correctly identifies 40 and NSL on the overhead matrix signs; it's only 50 and 60 that confuse it.

I seem to remember reading that camera recognition takes preference over the map data but I guess it's actually quite difficult to get the balance right. Nevertheless, I'd expect the camera system to distinguish between 50 and 60 (as it used to do).
