Default XC or V90

I've got the choice between a 2018 XC90 and a 2018 V90. The V90 has just about every extra imaginable but the XC has a winter pack and thats about it.Both similar mileage and D4 engines.

Everything on auto trader shows around 5k + difference between the 2 so if same price I would say xc . If you are paying more depends what you really want out of a car. I have i high spec v60 and don’t want to get out of it at the end of the journey lol

Such a big difference between a sleek and very low estate car and a huge SUV.

Surely your decision should be based on whether an estate car or SUV closely meets your driving and lifestyle needs rather than spec.
Both are excellent for long distance comfort, the V90 much better for town driving and the XC90 if you need load space and an off road/ AWD capability.

Ive had a BMW 540i Touring and now have an XC90, different horses for different courses.

I had a v90 2019. Everything on it. Loved it but missed the high driving position being used to landrovers.

Part exed it for an xc90 after 6 months. Fully loaded.

Honestly, if you don’t want a 4x4 don’t bother. They are both exceptional, comfy, economical, ish. V90 d5 will do 55mpg. Xc90 d5 more like 35.

Ride is softer on the xc and more car like on the v90 but that goes without saying. I have polestar with air on the xc and you can select harder suspension.

Interiors are practically identical.

V90 will be a cheaper car to run.

Ultimately it’s down to what you like and what you need.

Boot is big in both, electric parcel shelf in v90 is a great touch you don’t get in the xc. Shame.

My xc has 22 inch wheels, very expensive tyres. About 300 each vs about 100 on the 19 inch the v90 had.

Clearly you have never sat in a ‘base spec’ XC90… it will have pilot assist so basically drives itself, is full leather and fantastic spec straight out the box.

V90 comes with pilot assist as well.

And comfort pack adds leather dash and door tops. A worthy upgrade and something to look out for.

Depends on several wants and needs really.
I would probably opt for the XC90 with the higher ride and handling on bumpy surfaces, the headroom in the cabin feels a little more open than the estate. Then again do you want/need those added extras in the V90!!!

The cargo area and versatility of the XC90 is far better than the V90 (does the D4 version have 7 seats) but I think a D4 engine in an XC90 will miss the extra 45HP of the D5 and may be a bit underwhelming. And if it does not have 7 seats that will be why.
