Urgent help needed
Hi guys,
My '53 T6 Geartronic has been working fine all morning, but just jumped in now and the key won't turn past I - any ideas? I've done the usual, made sure the steering lock isn't on, checked it's in park etc. I get the electrics, stereo etc but can't turn the key enough to fire up the engine. Any suggestions? Cheers. |

this is typical of the ignition lock failing , you could take the cowlings off and remove the ignition switch on the left side of the column and operate it with a screwdriver to get going , but it will need a new steering lock , you can order one for next day matched to your original key number from the dealer . Don't forget the 2 new shear off screws !

RAC did pretty much that to get me going. Not sure it was the steering lock though, that seemed ok. RAC man said it was the barrel, now needs replacing although it works with a screwdriver for now. Anyone here used the independent Volvo guy of Tyndall Street in Cardiff? Thought I might give him a try first thing Monday. Gotta be cheaper than using the main stealer again. |

I can take the key in and out with no problems.
However, I can only move the key to position 1, getting the basic electrics on. RAC man stripped down the ignition section so I can start the car with the key in position 1, using a screwdriver on the actual ignition switch. Also, freed up the lever allowing the gearstick to be moved. Not sure if this answers your question, but I didn't really understand it, so I've given you all the info I have in case it makes more sense to you than it does to me .... lol. Thanks for your help and interest anyhow. |

so it is not the ignition switch restricting the movement , it will indeed need a new ignition lock assembly and shear off bolts as i menioned above ..
