Default T8 owners and preconditioning

Hi everyone

As the preconditioning only works whilst the T8 is connected to electricity, what do you guys do in the morning?

Do you leave your T8 plugged in overnight or plug it in the morning and then start the preconditioning with or without a timer?

My car is parked in a garage and I have not felt the need to warm it prior to setting off in the morning with current UK temperatures.
What has been your experiences with preconditioning so far?

Mine pre-conditions fine using the petrol heater and it is never plugged in when I use it. I just click it on using my mobile, never used a timer.

Now that confuses me...The Manual states clearly that preconditioning the T8 is only possible whilst it is connected to a charger.

I did on one occasion use the parking climate from the volvo on call app, which did warm the car up but when I started the engine , I wa greeted by 2 error messages ( including ESC sport mode, lane departure warning, both with a yellow triangle against them).

Unless the manual is wrong, you have not used the pre conditioning, but rather you have used the parking climate ( which the manual states you can use without being connected up to a charger)

Hi. You're probably referring to the US spec T8. In the UK and I think rest of Europe, the T8 also comes with an Auxiliary fuel fired heater (as standard) for pre-conditioning. I think the reason it was dropped from US spec is because of some Federal regulations. So they can only precondition when car is plugged in, unlike for us in the UK.

Well I haven't got my T8 yet, but I believe that is the case. Except any of the T8 owners report otherwise.

Correct. US T8 does not have the auxiliary engine (which would be, what, the fourth motor?) I presume because of some sort of regulation, probably ties to emissions.

We leave ours plugged in overnight. Sometimes we use the app to precondition, especially if it is hot or cold out. Annoyingly, it generally doesn't work the first time, but does the second. I think that is a comms time-out on the app, though.

The other thing that I've found works is to use the fob to unlock it from inside the house. If you do this, the car wakes up and starts running climate control without doing the app thing. No idea whether it's a real pre-condition or not, and of course it's not locked. This is what I tend to do if the outside temp is not extreme at either end of the spectrum.

For info, it's not a motor but a small fuel-fired boiler (perhaps you call it a furnace in the US?) similar to a domestic heating boiler/furnace but much smaller (obviously!).

That's odd. You have the car so you can tell what's on it or not. But as per the UK 2017 manual I've been going through, it should have a separate heater.

Just read your other reply. If your car is a T8, then I understand the Auxiliary heater is standard. Not sure about pre-cooling though, in case thats what you are asking about.

Hi, I’ve been having problems with preconditioning using the app on my phone… the precon just wouldn’t start! I reverted back to the old app design, and now everything’s fine. I assume there must be a problem or a glitch with the new app software?
