Cam belt or chain
Hi All, when does the cam belt or chain need replacing on s40 2.0D 2004 (new shape) or Not. Done 78.000 miles, nothing in the Service book saying if it's ever been changed.

Try searching the forum under 'cambelt' you will find what you are looking for.
Typical example at 95k service:- http://www.volvoforums.org.uk/showth...light=cam+belt |

you only get chains on bmw's and such nowdays unfortunatly volvo took the cheap route a good few years back, and i would love to get the prat who decided to also drive the water pump with the most important belt, in my garage for a few minutes,i would love to beat the idiot to a pulp

be thankful you dont have aVW F8ck paying £600 every 4 years for the belts to get done as apprenlty byt he time you need to the belts the waterpump will be shagged too lol.
i think 10 years or 125k is plenty long enough for a belt in service (well thats how long ford and PSA with the same engines recommend you change them), chains in theory are good but just look at vauxhalls to see how problematic they are. |

- It is , 140 - 150 miles ( depending on 12000 or 12500 service intervals ) or 10 years which ever comes first ... Never known of any premature problems with these ...

an 2004 early model with printing error perhaps? 72K was never in the official service sheet for the 2.0 D ..

Timing belt
Hi.
According to a Volvo routine Service Checklist, 'all models, renew timing&inner/outer auxiliary drive belts along with new belt tensioners and idlers every 10 years or 150K miles / 240K kilo whichever occurs first'. Hope this helps. If in doubt...change. |
