Navteq update
Received the first of my free updates yesterday, did'nt realise there are four CD's! Hopefully they will be easy to install, I'm assuming that there won't be any difference visually?

BTW, you will only need one disc in the unit in the boot, you should have received a pack with the other 3 discs from your dealer when you purchased the car.

It's a 2010 model registered in May this year, I was a bit surprised to get an update this early myself. There are four CD's (one for the UK) covering the whole of Europe not much in the way of instructions mind you. Not had a chance to really look at it so far but might have a go at installing it tomorrow.

Hi, The updates I received cover Europe only, not sure if Navteq cover Australia although if you currently have navigation someone must have created the softwear. I got all the paperwork and contacts with the documentation that came with the car.

Map updates
I bought a V60 just over a year ago and installed new discs a few months ago. It takes a long time - up to a few hours. To save you some worry though, you have put the new disc in sequence when driving. When you turn the engine off, the system will remember where the update was, so you don't have to drive to a few hundred miles to install the new map data. I am driving to Switzerland next week and I am not sure I can be bothered to install a further update just yet.

Map updates - my observation
From my experience I noticed that:
1. Loading disc from battery not always work properly - If you want to use battery: - first start the engine with the open door - insert the disc and wait till progress bar apear on the screen (should take 2-5 min) - turn off the engine and continue upgrading with a battery charger connected (progress bar will be still visible) 2. You can use the phone via Bluetooth during upgrading - if you press EXIT on progress bar you can make/answer the call from your car as usually. It not disturbing the upgrading process. I checked this. 3. Sometimes it looks like the system has a problem with reading the disc, but if there is no message other then reading/installing - just forget about them till you get the message on the screen or progress bar. 4. You can check the disc in your computer DVD, if there is a problem with reading just use antyvirus scaner to check all discs. If there is a problem you get message "can't read file...." 5. If something gone wrong - read the message on the screen carefully, sometimes we skipp one word which is fundamental. There is no best solution, but some steps have to be done. Hope this help a little. |
