Advice on breaking a 480 turbo?
I've just bought a low mileage 480 Turbo Automatic. It's in really good condition but unfortunately not for long as I plan to rob it of its engine for a 340 project. I want to break the rest for spares but I have very little space and I don't want it sitting around on my driveway for too long so I was wondering if you could tell me what the fastest selling, higher value items are?
I've got a copy of an extensive list that Glasgowjim kindly posted on the 480 forum but I wouldn't be able to fit all that in my wee shed! http://www.volvo-480-europe.org/foru...p?f=19&t=33134 I know I won't make a fortune but it would be nice to get back a little bit of what I paid for it and then scrap the rest. Unless it would be easier to sell as a rolling shell with all parts still attached? |

Assuming that you have a cardboard box storage space then I can tell you the stuff that will sell quickly , you should have pmed or posted on the 480 club site but here goes...
the oil pressure sender + the MOUNT - instant seller the triple gauges CEM 3 unit window regulators popup motors the popup relay (the tall one as it is a discontinued part.) another instant seller the front fogs if you can get it off without breaking if you have air con then the VEM unit will sell quite quickly seat belt arms front seat belt clips if not the pretensioner type if your car is non aircon the plastic connector pegs from the sunroof front and rear clusters if in rigtig god condition just toss the fronts if they are not that great. rear roller boot cover + clips plastic door pockets that is it ! Suppose you would want prices as well |

I tried to register on the 480 forum a couple of days ago but I've still not received my registration email despite repeated requests. Suggested prices for the bits would be awesome. The leather looks in good nick too. Last edited by Rikochet; Nov 28th, 2014 at 20:53. |

with a simple turbo boost mod you can get 0-60 in 7 sec and 130+ mph .. yes it is criminal to break such a rare car in good condition ..

The last retro car I built was a MK4 Escort with a zetec turbo and megasquirt. Think it was around 250 bhp by the time I was finished. I've also had a cosworth, a couple of kit cars and loads of other cars in between. The Volvo is 110bhp standard right? Is there anyone still doing the mods?

here is what superchip said : By altering the wastegate control to allow higher boost pressure to be used , the car is totally transformed . The mid range acceleration is surprising ! The Chassis of this car can handle quite a bit more power , but the main limiting factor is the torque which the already uprated Transaxle can transmit . By altering the boost pressure from 9 to 12 psi maximum , the torque will increase by 25% , as will the BHP . The maximum power goes up from 120 BHP to 155 BHP and the peak torque will increase from 129 lb ft to 163 lb ft @ 4000 RPM . The turbocharger is a small unit , so the maximum boost pressure at high RPM will drop to about 8 psi , leaving a good safety margin for continuous high speed running . The top speed will go from 124 mph to 135 mph . The 0 - 60 mph time will drop from 9 seconds to around 7.2 seconds . The fuel consumption of the 400 turbo is outstanding with over 40 mpg easily obtainable if driven sensibly across country and over 30 mpg in average use and this will not be altered unless you use the full performance all the time .
