New V40 Owner What to watch out for?.
OK just picked up my first ever Volvo..
Been a Loyal Fiat driver up to now but the after sales service has been so poor I have been tempted to switch. Picked up a 6 month old V40 D2 SE Lux Nav, With Driver Support Pack, Winter Pack, and Rear Park Assist. So just throwing it out there, anything that I need to look out for on these, mileage wise I am fairly high mileage 30k per year. Planning on keeping it 2.5 years till it hits 3 years old. Anything that tends to crop up on them on a regular basis that can be avoided with TLC?. Is it worth a remap?. Any other thoughts appreciated |

Fairly new to the V40 myself although not new to Volvo. I have a 2015 V40 1.6 D2 and so far very happy with the car.
Your car will be under warranty until 3 years/60k miles so I would just ensure it is serviced on time by Volvo dealer. If it is a 1.6 D2 then service interval is 12,500 miles and cambelt change is 87,500 miles if you do that many miles in the car. I would imagine you could invalidate the warranty if you get the car remapped. I have not read anything much on here about issues with the V40. Enjoy the car. |

Excellent choice 😉 Only real issues I've read about/know of are EGR Valve problems though this is predominantly on the more recent D4 engine from what I gather. Also if you have the harmon Kardon sound make sure you've had the latest software update installed. You'll know if you have on a cold morning as it won't work for 2-3 minutes from startup if it hasn't been done!
Other than that there is very little I've read of, I too am looking at keeping mine but from anywhere from 4-7/8 years at least so hoping for relatively trouble free motoring. As far as the remap is concerned, as above be wary as it will invalidate your warranty. As far as I know Polestar don't currently do a remap for the D2 unfortunately as this would've been the main trouble free option.

Thank you for the info..
Yes will be regularly serviced so hopefully that will keep all under cobtrol Not sure on sound system think its just the standard one with the nav system, still in shock nav map updates are free always had to pay through the nose with other cars |

Keep an eye on the batteries on the key fobs. One of mine failed after just 11 months - with no warning (our previous Citroens warned via the dashboard display when the fob batteries were getting low). Fortunately this was when I was home - otherwise it would have left me stranded, and locked outside the car.
I used the spare fob, and drove later that day to the Volvo dealer, who told me that the batteries should be replaced EVERY YEAR (they lasted five years on the Citroens). I have replaced the batteries in both fobs, and will do that every year. Otherwise no significant problems so far (26500 km on the clock at the moment). |

Rear door locks
I have had a V40 for three years now and I am very pleased with it. However, I have had issues with the rear door locks. Last year both door locks failed and had to be changed. I was told they had been replaced by an improved lock design!! Last month the driver side rear door would not open again both using the external and internal door handle/latch. The lock was replaced again and everything is fine again. Made a coupe of post about the problem previously. For what it's worth I think the problem might be linked to extremely cold weather in the morning. I pick up my grandson at 7.00 in the morning and on several occasions the doors have been difficult to open, as if they are frozen. The problem with the locking mechanism seems to follow several days later.

Extended manufacturers warranty
If your doing 30,000 miles a year it'll probably be worth buying the extended manufacturers warranty, it costs around £600 and increases the warranty to 5 years / 100,000 miles. I've just done mine for peace of mind now it's three years old
