Question Selling my XC60

2 questions:

1) Is there somewhere on this forum to advertise cars for sale? I can't see anywhere obvious.

2) What advice can you give me for selling privately?

Our new XC60 is only 4-5 weeks away now, and, while we got a good deal on the price, we got low-balled by the dealer for our PX. Whilst we still have that for a back-stop, I would like to explore a private sale.
  • I've got someone booked next week to come and do a valet. I've explained that we have small children and cream leather upholstery, and the left side has had one or two encounters with hedges. £100 for what he estimates (sight unseen) to be half a day.
  • A/C stopped working this week (of course!), so we have someone coming today to re-gas it. £30 seems like a good deal. The guy is a Bosch A/C engineer who does people's cars in his spare time!
  • The Volvo badge on the front is almost totally worn away. Local dealer has confirmed a FoC replacement - should I bother?
  • What are the best sites to use? AutoTrader seems like the obvious choice. What about eBay?
  • Will a 6 year old (58 plate) XC60 SE Lux Auto Nav with LOTS of toys and 81,000 miles be popular? Obviously depends on price, I guess. Can the AutoTrader recommended price be trusted?
  • etc...

I realise that's strictly more than 2 questions! Thanks for your input.

Also, anyone want a fully loaded, well loved, one careful female owner (my wife), FDSH, XC60? :-)

Try selling in the sales section on this forum.

Autotrader and Ebay are popular choices, although why not fire off a few emails to companies that buy cars - I don't mean webuyanycar, I mean car sales lots, independent traders, traders that buy cars for cash. For a guide on price try http://www.thecarbuyingservice.co.uk/

Regards

What have you compared the price you have been offered to and how do you know price is low?

Parkers, Glasses, CAP, etc. Also the AutoTrader "good condition PX" price.

I did look, but couldn't find it. I could only find a parts sales section.

The problem I have with any of these car buying services (webuyanycar, etc.) is the horror stories you read about them making an offer online sight unseen, and then when you rock up they start knocking £50 off for this, £100 off for that, and before you know it, 15% has been taken off the initial offer.

Advertise it on here
I for one would have been very interested before I bought mine as I was originally looking for an older one with high spec.

When I sold my Audi A3 last year to purchase the V60, I went round a few local 2nd hand dealers.

Best to guage the correct ones though, ie ones that would sell that type of vehicle themselves, otherwise although someone might advertise they buy used cars they might just punt them on to auction so not offer that much.

If however you choose someone who deals in "decent" 2nd hand cars ( the one I chose sells Mercs, Saabs, Audis, etc ) then you might get a good deal. I certainly got more than p/x offer, and more than wbac. He sold it within a week as well, so I probably could have got more selling privately.
