Default Clean Windscreen

Does anyone know how to remove the smearing left on the windscreen after each pass of the wipers? I have fitted new blades & tried cleaning the windscreen with neat washer fluid, vinegar & lemon juice with no improvement. This may become more of a problem with night driving. Any advice much appreciated - thank you

I have had awful issues withy this also and eventually used IPA (Isopropyl Alchohol, or Isopropanol) to clean it with. That worked well for a while until traffic gime appeared again.

It seems to take about 6-9 months for the film to develop but now I have found that IPA cleans it I am not so concerned.

You can get the IPA from a dispensing chemist (or eBay )

i have no worries but yes i did start mine by cleaning with IPA, in addition to not buy from ebay IPA from many tends to travel for many off there without suitable containers and can cause injuries if not i would not like to be the one on the end of it should i say.

a decent sealant following it will avoid any issues.

I use a piece of kitchen tissue and some White spirit to wipe the blades - seems to work ok for me.

White Spirit? are you joking me? if that gets anywhere near paint/trim for any while you will really damage not to mention potentially shortening the life of the blades.

White spirit and xylene is used in some of the most TRADE level tar removers to remove tar yes it will get it clean but: -

a) remove them when you do it
b) rinse them off after.

the other potential issue here is that if it does not get absorbed or cleaned off properly your leaving that in the water drainage areas...

Are you confusing white spirit with cellulose thinners, white spirit is very benign, though quite good at cleaning oil and grease and would work providing you wash down with detergent afterwards. Xylene is essentially cellulose thinners and a powerful solvent - not to be used near car paintwork.

Personally I would not use white spirit because of the residue that it leaves on the screen, preferring IPA.

Try applying two coats of Rain-X. It will remove all traces of grease and leave the glass sealed and water repellant.

This is what you want - Gtechniq G1

I treated all the glass on our XC 18 months ago and it's still beading/sheeting water today!
