So i had my car serviced the other day at my local Volvo garage. Upon there inspection they noted I needed new rear break disc's and pads on my 2015 XC70 D5 AWD. They then tried to charge me £441!!!! Is this a normal price cause I have found it way cheaper at a local approved volvo garage and now wondering if thats too cheap to be real

That seems expensive - I would be expecting around £200 for the parts and £100 labour...

Euro Car Parts are showing 2015 XC70 Rear Brembo Discs and Pads for £153 all in using code save33. Try a Volvo dealer for a price on the parts and ask for Discount, you may well be pleasantly surprised. ![]()

A dealer/garage will probably charge a bit more than expected for the rear brakes as they'll have to connect their diagnostic tool to wind the rear EPB calipers back.
If you do have your own diagnostic tool (e.g. VIDA DICE) then it'll cost about £150 - £200 for quality discs/pads. If you don't have a diagnostic tool, you're looking at £65 for a 'fake but working' VIDA unit + the cost of a laptop that you're willing to install old Windows 7 onto....so arguably at least another £100. Therefore, assuming you'd have had to buy a diagnostic tool, you could have done this yourself for about £300. It took me about an hour to replace both rear discs/pads, so I'd expect less time at a garage - I'm not quite sure where £441 comes from....can only assume they charge a lot for genuine Volvo parts.

Your not being ripped off as such just charged what main dealers charge.
Will always be cheaper at an indepenant garage or buying aftermarket parts yourself.

I agree , I always just get my discs/pads etc from my local Volvo dealer and they always give me a healthy discount. I was quite surprised though when on one boxed set of pads I saw " Made in China" ![]()

Sat in the dealers showroom a year or so ago in the middle of buying my present car i overheard a phone conversation between the service adviser and a customer. It went along the following lines. "The noise from your front brakes was the pads, they and the discs must be replaced, your rear brakes also need replacing. The normal cost would be £1400 + but we can do it for £1100 +." Exact figures were used but I'd gone into a state of shock so didn't take them in
