Default Insurance for Polestar Optimisation

Can anyone advise, who you use for your Volvo that’s had Polestar Optimisation Upgrade installed.
I’m told it’s tuning/chip modification.
As such my best quotes are nearly double what I was paying before the upgrade.
Some are wildly high.

No, its a volvo factory optimisation. Not a "tuning" or "chip" modification. let the insurance company research it themselves.. A lot of insurers don't charge anything extra and neither should they.

It's not a factory mod it is a dealer installed mod and every Insurance Co I approached regard it as such and quoted similar inflated premiums as is the OP'S experience. I thus did not proceed to have it installed at the first service even though there was a good dealer offer.

well its only sold by an authorised dealer but it is factory developed tested and approved and securely delivered to the car so those words might help the insurance understand it.

Yes it is factory option - there are a lot of "factory" options that are actually dealer fit before the car is released to the customer, usually because the exact parts and software differ between countries. Apple Car Play on some models, tow bars, and Polestar to name three.

Volvo are clear - it is "software optimisation". I had an XC70 once that had been P*'d and Aviva at the time charged only the admin fee to have it noted on the policy.

I just purchased an XC60 with Polestar.

Hastings our existing insurer wouldn't touch it.

Had to swich to admiral who weren't that much more. I put it down as a 0-10% performance chip/tune.

I just used go compare.

Hope that helps.

Ask them nicely and they won't charge you the cancellation fee as they can't provide cover on the new vehicle.

What are people actually paying? Ours is £612 fully comp, 6 year NCD with youngest driver being 26 years and a £675 excess. No previous claims or points.

I don't see how it can't be considered a performance/chip etc even if it is just 'software optimisation'. I would never risk not declaring it. Bottom line is when you input the reg (in our case) it comes back to 215bhp as standard. It's 230bhp with Polestar. Not worth the risk. Just my two pennies worth....
