XC70 2.4 D5 2006 - Can't see oil fill cap?
I recently bought a 2006 XC70 - 2.4 D5, and when looking in the engine bay, I cannot see where the oil would go. Looking online, in the owners manual etc haven't proved useful. Everywhere that it usually would be it simply isn't.

That's odd. It looks like the filler cap and neck has fallen off.
Can you undo the screws on the plastic cover next to the timing belt cover (where the circle is on the picture of your car?). I suspect that's where the oil should go, just you have no filler neck or cap!

you will need to buy the filler neck its a bolt on part with the crankcase breather underneath iv never seen an engine with the blanking cap on if you want to change the oil you could refill via the dipstick hole but it may be a little slow to fill.

presumably if you remove that cap there is a hole underneath into which oil can be poured ? just guessing but surely that is the case
I'm guessing this is some way of them making you more likely to bring the car in to the stealers for basic servicing instead of being able to do such an easy job yourself on the driveway Last edited by stuart bowes; Feb 9th, 2024 at 21:18. |

How strange.
After the resounding long term success of sealed for life auto boxes and sealed for life Haldex, maybe this was a prototype for sealed for life engine?

Have you asked the previous owner how he or she managed? Is there any service history? If so, there should be a way of contacting the last oil-change technician.

There is service history paperwork from 2021, the garage I bought it from said they completed a full service, however there’s no paperwork so I don’t really believe them. I will try and contact the place that did it in 2021, but I don’t think they’d remember at this point.

dependant on where you live in manchester you could try one of the local independent volvo specialists which are hallmark volvo in stockport or trevor burgess volvo in hyde just off the top of the m67 im sure they might be able to advise a course of action the oil filler neck is a bolt on part so easy to fit if needed.
