Default Riken Tyres?

I need to buy a couple of tyres. I've been looking at various options and Riken tyres have a budget price but good reviews. They've been owned by Michelin since 1992, which sounds positive?

Anyone had them on their P3 Volvo? I'm particularly interested in the noise, as the current Continentals transmit a huge amount of road noise!

No experience of Riken.

Continental 3's and 5's were rubbish on a my '11 Volvo S60 D3, The wear rate/lifetime is poor at around 10,000 miles.

Hankook were pretty average. Better wear rate than the Conti's, downside poor wet weather grip.

On a Volvo I find it difficult to look past Goodyear. I've got Michelin on my Focus and Suzuki bike which are brilliant. For a middle of the road performance car Michelin, I feel, would be wasted on a D3.

What's the trade off to produce a cheaper Michelin tyre would be what I am asking myself if considering Riken. Are they owned by Michelin or part of a group ?

I ran a 1998 FIAT Coupe 20v turbo on Fulda tyres, part of the Goodyear group and seemed OK for it. Maybe Riken fit in a similar category.

I'm currently on ContiSportContact 3. They do seem to have worn quickly as well as transmitting a lot of road noise (car is almost unbearable on concrete road sections for rear passengers). Never had any grip concerns though.

I've never had a problem with Conti grip just wear rate and as you say noise.

They are expensive for what they are I feel. I know they were damned expensive when I came to replace them the first time, after that I started to look around.

I’ve got an XC60 D4 AWD, 35k on the original Pirelli Scorpion tyres & they have loads of life left in them, I’m well impressed.

Thing is, if you've got 35k miles out of a tyre on an SUV it's going to be a pretty hard wearing compound which will make the noise in a normal S or V model unbearable.

I run Scorpions on my Freelander, very good tyre and hard wearing. I’d recommend em anytime.

To add to the tyre review site the Riken summer tyre reports were not positive with poor handling and wet performance.
