Mpg!
Hi all just did my first miles per gallon calculations today,I only got the car on the road recently. It's a 740 GLE 2.3litre manual five speed,1990 year.
It managed to do 25.1 MPG which considering I do only stop start short journeys isn't as bad as I thought it would be. Well at least I can roughly predict how far a tankful will get me.Did I mention the fuel gauge doesn't work! Now theres an unusual thing on a 740. I did 129 miles and used 23.300 Litres of super unleaded which cost £1.23.9 pence per litre.Which is a total cost of journey £28.86. Regards Brian. |

Hi there my mileage is 179167,I still have to do a full service but have done plugs and airfilter so far.I've got a lot to get done in a short time as holidays are looming.Towing sockets rear axle oil change, ignition switch, oil change etc etc.Still very pleased with the car though.

Sounds pretty ok. I could get up to 30 on my turbo when it was stock but that was after a full stage 0 service.

That is not bad for a 2.3, looks as though you will be getting 30ish on a long run. My low mileage 960 does 15 mpg local, 25 mpg on the motorway, mileage 77K 1996(P). I do not check 'The Old Lady' 1995 960 mileage 243K, it has the carbon footprint of the Isle of Wight, but is still going strong. If I checked the MPG, I would probably shoot myself.

25-30 seems about right for the 700/900 range......am getting 24.3 to 30.1 from my 940 manual 2.3 "classic" estate. I found I tended to get less from my 700's - but they were £200-£300 "runners"! The extravagance of paying £700 for my 940 with a decent service history etc seems to be paying off!

My manual LPT used to get mid twenties mostly, I managed 31mpg on a motorway run mostly at 60mph earlier this year, not long before it died. Normal 70mph was 28mpg. My new auto only gets 20mpg on my rural commute, with a slightly heavier foot, that's 300 miles/ 65litres. The last owner got only 250 miles, so I must be good. I need to get its tracking done before I do a long trip but I anticipate nearer to the manual on a long run as the top gear is just as tall for both cars.

Hi all,
On a run to north Wales mine (1989 GLE 2.3 injection estate) once clocked 37mpg driven gently. I doubt it could still return that kind of figure, we're going back to when it was alot younger! Thanks Jim |
