Terraclean type for GDI ?
Hi
I have a GDI and had a lot of trouble about 8 years ago with coking up. I was warned to go for a thrash now and again as I do tend to drive rather short journeys normally. I admit that I have been lax lately The car's running a bit lumpy and the tickover tends to surge between 1000-500 rpm. It also tends to stop at junctions etc if I let the revs down. I feel like I am nursing it Has anybody tried the "chemical clean" flush by companies like terraclean? I am hoping to at least get it to run a bit better and worst case eliminate a cause Thanks |

What may be a better idea, is to remove the throttle body and give it a good clean. You will most probably find a lot of coking up in there. Ideally also remove the plastic inlet manifold and the edge and get rid of the tonnes of coking up that will most probably be in there. Not the easiest of jobs, but at least this way, you can get rid of most of the coking. It will be much more effective than any type of cleaner, as they will mostly clean the engine internals and not the air intake bits (throttle body/inlet manifold). I have never ever seen a non blocked egr on a gdi by the way. It's a narrow channel that be ds and it's very very easy for coking up to settle in there. Once all of those are cleaned, trashing the car a bit will help so it doesn't coke up as much in the future
