Default Synthetic oil in 940 autobox.

Sorry to bring this up again, ive lost the previous thread it was discussed on.

1st question, how much do I need to flush and change the oil in my 940

2nd question, is this the right stuff?
http://www.performanceoilsltd.co.uk/...ion_fluid.html

Its nearly towing season, ive got the extra oil cooler and now I need to replace the fluid with some heavy duty stuff.

It is impossible to just drain, flush and refill,as there is no way of draining the torque convertor. The only way is to drain and refill with fresh oil about three times, with a few miles driven between changes. The only alternative is a good auto-box shop who will put a rig into the system and pump the old out, performing diagnostic checks as it does.
Cannot help you with your oil choice.

I was under the impression that id disconnect one of the oil cooler pipes, connect one end up to the barrel of new oil, the other id put in an old bucket to catch the old stuff, run the engine with a helper holding the car on the brakes running the box though all the gears until the new oil appeared in the old bucket indicating that all the old stuff had been flushed away.

Ive got to flush it 3 times? thats going to cost a fortune

not sure about your bucket trick, you would change the box ok,but I am not sure the torque convertor will pump out that fast.each time you drain , you will only drain about a third of the total oil.I dont remember the exact quantities ..

Thumbs up +1 for AMSOIL ATF

Hi Tim, Sorry for not replying earlier - I've been playing with Linux on my PC and I've only recently got it up and running. What a nightmare...

Anyway, the AMSOIL ATF if excellent stuff - thats what I put in my 940 LPT about 4-6 months ago now. Changes are smoother (I thought they were good before), and I seem to have gained a bit of HP too - again, I hadn't noticed any lack of power, but there seems to be a better 'transmission' of power through the drivetrain. Highly recommended.

I bought 10 quarts and ran that through using the pipe removal method as you quoted. Well, to be honest, I got my spannerman to do it as I didn't have the time and he only wanted £20 to do it! As it happened I turned up early and he was running late - so I was in time to watch

iPD sell a kit to do it, but you can use a 1/2 in clear hose and jubilee clip. The instructions are on iPD's website - http://www.ipdusa.com/ProductsCat.as...463&RootID=629

Good luck.
