'Engine service required' and limp mode - again
Hello all. I need some help please as I really
am coming to the end of my patience with these problems. Car is a 2000 - newer shape one, V70 2.5D. Following other issues before Christmas with limp mode etc, had a new MAF sensor fitted and the cars been ok. Then, on Motorway last night, slow lane, doing 65mph ish the car went into limp mode and got the "engine system fix next service" warning - which I've seen before - and also "engine service required" - which I haven't seen before. The car was running beautifully, no problems prior to these coming on. Limped home and left the car overnight. Started the car this morning, started easy as it always does, still both the messages and limp mode. In the past, when the car went into limp mode, turning it off would temporarily clear it...not so this time. The car is going in to the garage on Mon so will get codes etc read then but in the meantime, does anyone have any clue what is going on with it? Are those two messages just the same thing worded differently? Why do I have both of them at once? The car was only serviced two weeks ago so I assume it can't be that. I have been looking at getting the Turbo reconditioned as the fellow who looks after it said it was getting a bit lazy but from what I've read, a boost leak won't cause limp mode, rather overboosting will - which I'm sure it wasn't. It just seems like these computerised vehicles are more trouble than they're worth. The thing never seems to work for more than a couple of weeks without having some sort of computer led freak out. I'm lost. Last edited by 66split; Jan 28th, 2012 at 19:52. |

Hi mate it old be a number of things once the codes are got you should have a clue as to where the problem lies?! But the it's interesting the recycling the ignition does not change it? That indicates the the ECM is picking up the fault straight away without the engine being loaded ie turbo boost being incorrect. Could just be low fuel pressure or a sensor issue either way I hope it's an easy fix?! It could even be the intercooler hose has just blown off as the hose clips corrode over time and eventually they just blow off?!

Car just been serviced after 'engine system service urgent , came up and car into limp mode clearing on restarting engine only to appear again . Since service was fine for a week then returned . Codes 2505 and 130A came up does this mean to change air flow meter ? What does first code indicate . Just got the car has 177,000 on clock good service history up to 100,000 am doing cambelt , water pump etc this weekend . Any ideas please any Volvo mechanic in nw London known with recommendation .

If its ECM-2505 it points to low fuel pressure. My first guess would be fuel filter. When was it last changed?
130A appears to be air flow related (MAF) but I'd look at the fuel filter first. How were these codes generated - Volvo system (Vadis/Vida) or something else?

I had similar with my 04 V70 D5. Limp mode after acceleration. Turned out to be the fuel filter. The one in the car had collapsed. New filter and all sorted!
Definitely start with that. £26 if I remember rightly, very cheap fix. |
