2015 XC70 T5 Drive E Premier
VIN: YV440MBB8F1198074
These are two equipment questions relating to "Drive E" for anyone who has production data. 1) Does this vehicle have a supercharger (either belt or gear driven?) in addition to a turbocharger? I read about this compounded system, called Drive E, in later years XC70 models but not the 2015. 2) Also, I've read the hp rating of this engine is 240hp with a 302hp option. The engine in this vehicle is the 2.0l 4 cyl. The boost level, thus hp number, determines the T5 designation. It seems many can't understand that a 4 cyl. can be called a T5. Any clarification would be appreciated. |

A bit of googling gives engine 2L B4204T11 then here https://www.volvocars.com/en-om/supp...a801e800b1d372 which gives:

I've never heard of a supercharger in any Volvo. Highly unlikely this has one.
"DRIVE E" just means it has an efficient engine, combined with eco features to make it sip fuel.

They have used them in the new V60 etc but have now switched to turbo only. It was also in previous gen S60 at a T6 with 300+hp in 2015.

I guessing yours is the petrol variant of the VEA, kind of rare this side of the pond in P3 S/V/XC form, but belive were introduced more widely on the SPA platform so you might get better info on this particular engine in S60 & V60 '18> / XC60 '17> / S90 & V90 '16> / XC90 '15> General.
Or, if you are on SwedeSpeed or MVS, try post a thread on there, mostly North American and Canadian members, and you may receive a more definitive answer. TheVolvoGuy is Stateside and appears to work on these regularly. Perhaps get in touch with him regarding same?

He also mentions in the vid that the T5 is turbocharged and the T6 is turbo and supercharged...which would help explain the 250bhp and 302bhp options.
I need to find a supercharger for my D4 😂
