Aux belt tensioner
Guys and Girls...
Turns out my D3 has the old tensioner. Is it simple swap to the new type? Old: 1031763.jpg New: 1048309.jpg |

No, you don't. The recall was actually a service upgrade (campaign S29461) - so if you went to a dealer it was done for free - however that has expired. It is now a job that you have to pay for yourself entirely. And it involves drilling and tapping the block for a new bolt to go in...
I was fortunate to get mine done in Jan 2021 by my local Volvo garage at a fairly reduced rate (partly negotiation, partly luck and good timing when they failed to meet the job deadline and reduced the cost as a gesture of goodwill) - Volvo UK refused to give any discount. The quote I got was £422.94 = £240 labour, £100.50 for new aux belt set £2.35 for a six point sock (??!)and £9.60 for 4 flange screws. Total £422.94 (inc VAT). I think the tensioner itself was either free, or included in the aux belt set. The final price I actually paid was £385.65 including an MOT (they charged me £5 for that) - so I got a 10% discount on the day. Hope that helps. I do most jobs, but wasn't prepared to drill and tap the block... Simon

Well that sucks...
Was planning to do the timing belt etc all my self, but in light of this, maybe best to get Volvo to do the whole lot including the drilling and tapping of holes. Out of curiosity, what's up with the old tensioner? ALSO why on earth does my 2011 V70 still has one? |

I've just double checked the service book and you're right; I'm such an idiot! F-bomb
It does have garage stamps but didn't realise they were non-Volvo. Only the "pre-delivery" and the "1-year" are from Volvo, the rest are from a local independent. This means the belts have never been changed either |
