Not starting ;(
Went to take my son swimming today and the car would not start. It made a very loud ticking sound but just would not turn over.
Now, I had the battery replaced about 2 weeks ago, so definitely shouldn't be that, and they checked the alternator at the same time, and said all was okey dokey. It's making the same sound as when the battery was on its last legs, but unlike that time, it's not got quieter on trying it, it's remained very loud. It's been parked up outside for almost a week, and as we all know, it's been rather cold. It is coming up with a low coolant warning on turning the key and did flash up with "braking failure stop safely" when we turned the key but it was obviously stopped and in park at the time. Do you think it's the cold? It was about 2 degrees when I tried starting it. |

Possible causes:
Battery is shot/defective. Poor connection to battery. Check, clean, and tighten battery leads. Battery discharging. Check for lights, accessories etc that may be draining battery. Starter motor defective, or stuck. Try hitting the motor with a (soft) mallet or similar |

Just cos the battery's new don't discount it,i sell batteries and if they're gonna fail within the warranty period then more often than not it's in the 1st month or so. I usually recommend jumping it off,if it starts staight away then take your battery back and ask for it testing. If it won't start after being connected with decent jump leads for a few minutes then i would pretty much rule that out.

If I put in a new battery what else must be done, will I have to recode the radio, and the keys?
Do you have say a few minutes before every thing goes dead before you connect up the new one? Any tips to be sure it works again after? Regards John |
