Angle gear - daft question
My 04 XC90 has only front wheel drive.
I'm currently in the process of taking the transfer box out to change the spline shaft in the fist instance, but I have a question. If the splines are worn, then presumably there is no drive going into the transfer box, which explains why the prop shaft spins freely, but then surely there is also no drive to the offside wheel as it's driveshaft goes into said transfer box. Does that mean it is only 1 wheel drive? |

I answer my own question in case anyone else has the same bizarre thought.
When I eventually got the transfer case out I realised that the driveshaft goes right through it and into the gearbox. The splined coupler takes drive from the gearbox and into the transfer box so basically floats on the driveshaft. |

Sounds about right, I've never really fully understood the physics of differentials myself though!
