My alarm unit has a dead battery and tells me about it every time I start the car. It was like that when I bought it and I reckon the board is probably knackered. I'd like to take it out of the car but carry on using the car until I can either fix the old unit or buy a new one.
Obviously, it's not working properly now but will running the car without the alarm unit in cause any other issues? Does it make any difference if it's disconnected rather than just broken? |

Pull the alarm fuse in the interim. The remote still works, the led flashes etc.
It will prevent the main battery draining either from repeated triggering of the alarm or current finding a path to ground through the pcb on the siren module which is probably being corroded by battery leak. Even with the fuse out you can sometimes hear a strange noise from the siren which will appear to come from the ecu box. |

.... and yes you can still use the car without the module fitted. (there are rivents though holding the arch liner in place, so easier if you can fix or swap it out the same day)

The fuse is already out so that's sorted and I don't have a problem with riveting it back up with the unit out. Drilling out the original rivet is more of an issue though. Why is it with cordless drills I can never find the battery charger?

On older cars it's F38 in the box at the right side of the dash. Newer cars it's F8 in a box under the steering column.
