Steering wheel angle sensor fixed for free
I've been having the common issues with the steering wheel angle sensor fault for a while now. I thought it was odd most people get it on right hand lock like mine. Mine was always first thing in the morning too and then OK for the rest of the day.
Got me thinking it was caused by a voltage drop / resistance across the sensor. And it was going over a threshold reading turning to the right.. I disconnected the battery and then unplugged / plugged the steering wheel angle sensor back in a few times to clean the pins up if they were a little dirty. Connected the battery and now after a few days of testing, no light at all and it was coming on without fail every morning.. Worth a try if you are having the same issue. |

I presume you have to take the steering wheel off? Not sure i want to do that.
Ours got steadily worse having been turning right only intermittently and now anti-skid comes on as soon as making any turn. I suspect it does need replacing. |

I didn't need to remove the steering wheel. You can get connector by just removing three screws and removing the lower steering cowl. The connector is on the left hand side.
Worth trying on yours as it might just need cleaning up..... I think these work on very low current / voltage so a perfect connection is vital. If you try it don't forget to disconnect the battery first.. |

sas info
Having been there before, the SAS (steering angle sensor) is a complete module which also has the clockspring (which maintains connection to the steering wheel airbag as you turn the wheel..) and also must connect the audio buttons on the steering wheel in a similar fashion..
I like you had the intermittent messages which only seemed to be triggered by full lock in one direction, but would then disappear until a time in the future.. sadly i doubt its related to poor connections as the sas is in a fairly easy going environment (unless you empty your coffee on the wheel) the bad bit is you can only buy the whole module as a replacement part, and it does also need calibrating using vida once a new module is fitted so the car knows the limits and correct straight ahead position.. the messages get more frequent as it wears it seems. Have attached some pics of it incase of interest volvos p/n is 3131 3083, assuming you have a car with the anti skid system (will have a button on bottom of dash panel).. guess you must have as your getting the error message. |
