That's a very good article and you would probably never break that box.
But the box from a Sierra or a MX5 would be more than capable of handling the power of the Volvo plus a lot easier to get hold of... But as its been said if your want it for cruising and not racing off the line try gearing it as high as possible first ? |

Sorry I'm no expert on Ford parts but i think it was the Type 9 box ?
The MX5 box is used in MGB conversions .. |

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford...9_transmission “try gearing it as high as possible first” No, not as high as possible, the gearing needs to be appropriate for the vehicle and engine. That’s why a T5 5th gear at .63 is not good for a Volvo. Was explained in the article I posted. |

We meant gear as high as possible with a ratio available for the axle and use the standard 4 speed box.....then if its not suitable take another route..
To be honest like others said fit an overdrive if you don't want to cut anything. I was talking about the T9 not the T5...the type 9 can take 200 lb ft of torque so is plenty strong enough. https://volvoforums.org.uk/showthread.php?p=2483778 try chatting to one of the lads involved with this link ? DO NOT, REPEAT, DO NOT deal with V-Performance. A Google search will give you loads of reasons why not. Search on this forum too.

Did not realise they had a bad name..
