Thumbs down Swirl arm problems.

Hi.
Can anyone help me please?
I've had my 08 s60 D5 for a few months now and I love it! But my better half came back from a quick trip to the shops and said "it's broken"
I've narrowed it down to the swirl arm being detached and ordered a replacement but there seems to be no resistance on the arm on the engine. Is this normal? Also the motor seems to be stuck( it just clicks when the engine is switched off) the arm seems to be pushed towards the engine at all times. Is there any way to test the motor and can I replace it or is it a garage job? Going on holiday in 7 days so need to get it done ASAP.
I'd be grateful if anyone can help.
