The garage fitted mine so i didn't get to see exactly how it went in but the bulbs looked to have four slots on them. They fitted it to the metal holder then into the head light housing. Maybe the bulb needs to go in the housing first then the metal connector fitted afterwards to keep the bulb straight down? There seems to be a straightish line on the drivers side but I see a strange pattern on hedges on the passenger side. Both bulbs look to be aiming exactly the same as each other though.
If you look at my blurry image, you will see there is a silver sticky out bit in the wall of the hole the bulb fits into ( about 1 o clock). There is also a stand of metal sticking out ( you can't see it in the image its too blurry) at about 12 o clock. These two pieces locate on the two notches on the bulb flange ( a disc some 5mm wide which runs 90deg to the bulb body)
These "key ways" make it obvious if the bulb is fitted correctly. It don't rock .If you are trying to fit the bulb with the headlight in situ it will be difficult to know the bulb is located correctly as a view of what you are doing esp on the O/S is almost impossible.
I would also recommend fitting the bulb first then attaching the connector as manouvering room with a bulb attached to the connector is limited and if you knock the bulb on the housing when trying to fit it, its a 70% chance you'll break the bulb. I broke mine trying to remove old bulb and practiced various ways of reinstalling before using the new bulb.

Good luck.

Cheers
