It finally happened
Well, after 16 years and nearly 180,000 miles the Daughter's XC90 has suffered a fault. All in all I'm pretty pleased with that record.
It's been intermittently throwing an ABC/stability control warning, and just occasionally firing the ABS when pulling upmto a stop. The V3.0 shows a mechanical ABS fault at the OSF wheel, ye olde ABS reluctor ring. It's cold and damp outside and I'm not going to grovel about losing knuckle blood for a job that won't cost very much to get done at a garage. Which brings me to my next point. The nearest specialist is Hortons, a 40+ mile round trip which I have to do twice to go back and collect it, and someone has to shadow me twice to bring me back. It's not a big job, so will they let me bring it in early and have them do it while I wait? You bet they won't. They quoted £110 all in. Ok, its not Hortons fault that I live where I do but they could have been a little more helpful, and a 1 year warrantly is only mediocre. Rang Bells Northampton expecting to be bent over and rogered - their services and routine stuff have always been reasonable-ish, but I've never been to them for a repair. £126 and some pence all in, the part has a lifetime warranty, and if I can get it to them for bang on 8am this coming Thursday they'll have me on my way by 9.30am. Any prizes for guessing where I'll be going?
