Electrical problem
So decided to charge the battery up on my 2005 2.4 D5 163bhp as I'm only doing very short journeys and the battery is taking a pounding in this weather.
Thought the best option would be to take it off, bring it indoors and put it on a slow trickle charge for 24 hours or so. As I didn't want to disconnect the power from the car I used a power saver and a battery in the footwell. The power saver plugs in to the OBD socket. When I disconnected the battery the courtesy lights stayed on for around 1o minutes then all power was lost, I didn't think too much about it at the time. I duly charged the battery up fitted it back in the car, however when switching the ignition on it became apparent something was wrong. the dash lights were dim, indicators don't work along with a few other things, it starts ok and locks with the fob. I duly plugged Vida in but it's not being recognized and there are no lights on the dice box. I guess putting power in through the OBD is a no no on a XC 90. I've checked various fuses etc, disconnected and reconnected the battery to no avail.
Any suggestions of help please?
PS polarity was correct on the battery connected to the power saver.
