Default Advice wanted please

Hi guys and gals, new to the forums and first post. Here's the situation, my wife and I are expecting our first child in a few weeks and are looking for an etsate as a second car.

My budget is £3000 and I am looking ideally for a Volvo, although I do like the Passat TDI as well.

I live in the thereHighlands of Scotland so I have to travel most places to look for cars. We have a used Volvo dealer in Inverness (about 40 miles away), Ian Cattanach cars, he has been in the business for about 30 years I believe and he has a 1998 Volvo V70 2.4 XC cross country esatate for sale.

It has done 101,000 miles, comes with history and looks in good condition, it is priced at £2495 and is the petrol model.

I have a couple of questions if anyone would care to reply...

1) Is it worth looking for a diesel model over a petrol? Is there any difference in the two?

2) Is the price ok for this age and model? He does do a six month warranty on his cars.

Any comments/thoughts appreciated.
