Testing an AWD system XC90
Without having some snow to test the AWD how can I do this, I'm looking at a second hand unit of 2003 with just over 100,000 miles, with geartronic.
Is there a simple way to check it out, if its up on a lift? Are there any other items of real importance expense to look out for please? Regards John |

When I had problems with my AWD before I asked a local garage whether they would let me on a spare ramp. I offered to pay but they did it for free.
When I changed tyres last month I put the car on 4 axle stands. Either way you will be able to see ALL 4 wheels turning. The front ones much quicker than the rear. And you can also check the Haldex if you need to. |

Google for the car manuals. Not very good for repairs. A better option is to download an older version of Volvo's VIDA. This is what the garages use. |

To check AWD get all 4 wheels on wet grass or sand or loose stones and get someone to watch as you pull away with full power , all 4 wheels should spin for a moment before the car sorts itself out . If just the front wheels spin , possibly a problem with the haldex clutch unit but unlikely ..

Well I bought it, and all seems ok with the drive system as well, thats put me at ease with this now, as having read so much on here I was for sure expecting something to be wrong, as it wasnt from a Volvo dealer.
