Yes, the module Tommy is on about, is the VGLA. On earlier phase 1 cars it was located under the driver's footwell cover (where the CEM is on the late Phase 1 and all phase 2 cars). On the late Phase 1 and all phase 2 cars, the module is located under the stereo.
THe lock alarm module or VGLA, is the one that receives the signal from the fob to lock and unlock the doors, as well as from the button on the driver's door. The VGLA is the module that send the signal for the doors to be locked unlocked too. There is another small unit that is mounted above the speedo/instrument cluster and that is the receiving antenna unit receiving the signal from the fobs.(see photo below) The signal is sent from there to the VGLA. I have NEVER seen the receiving antenna unit failing. WIth regards to your problem, I would actually check if the actuators on the driver's door and the boot are working properly. They do tend to fail here and there. If they are working fine, then I would suggest you check the wiring to both actuators for continuity

Update for posterity:
I replaced the VGLA module with an ebay replacement - big thank you to Gatos' guide for clearing all that up. Everything works now like it did before, including the order of the locks. Of course, this means my remote is out again, so now I get to convince the dealer to do it again without charge. The cycle repeats. I'll demonstrate to them this time that all the locks work, since apparently that's now a thing. SMH. |
