Default Advice about alarm system

Not something I want to shout about for obvious reasons, but my 2000 c70’s alarm has gone mute, you can activate it and it does all the other things like flashing the hazard lights and everything, just no siren. It locks and unlocks off the remote as normal. Obviously there’s a problem with the siren, first off, where is it? Also, is that black module inside the offside front wing anything to do with the alarm system? I’ve heard there’s an internal battery that can burst and leak on the alarm?

Early V70s have the alarm siren under the right front wheel arch liner.
One of my C70s (2001 or 2002) had the siren under the left front. I dont know if all C70s are the same.

Yes the internal battery tend to fail which causes the alarm to go off (usually in the middle of the night). So worth looking at and probably replacing while you are at it. But not sure that that would cause the siren to not sound.

PS
OK yes the black box under the offside front wing is the siren unit.

Yep, the module will cause the siren to go mute, it’ll also set the alarm off for no apparent reason albeit with no sound, just flashing hazards
