i read somewhere that the srs light comes on when the battery is low/poor condition.....are you able to check the battery yourself with a multi meter? how long has the battery been in the car? recommended change intervals are every 4 years (but you can push it out to 6-8 years)

If you look after your battery (i.e. keep it charged up) it'll last for years. Original Volvo battery, aged 9 years, ignition was always a bit weak, but I left my side lights on once overnight in April and it was a mortal blow to my elderly battery. Charging my phone via USB (0.5A) for a few seconds was enough to suck the tiny amount of residual charge out of the battery so I had to swap it.
I didn't have any problems with SRS though. Swapped last month for a new higher powered Bosch S4008 (cost about £70 delivered from eBay). Ignition is much better now and with 74AH rating it should be enough to charge my phone for a while!
