Default HDC and towing a boat?

Hi all,

Does anyone see the need or would recommend getting HDC when towing a boat???

I am thinking mainly when reverse launching the boat.

Thanks all great forum

i forget what speeds hdc keeps you to, its something like 9kmph forwards and 6 backwards at a guess. If you are moving a trailer somewhere tricky and steep its probably no use as that would be much too fast.

However, 4x4 would be a massive help, and as said above comes with hdc anyway.

That said i dont tow with my xc60, only with ford transits. Logic still applies i believe.

Good points, particularly reverse speed comments.

Unfortunately in Australia HDC even with 4x4 is a $700 option :-)

Ask your dealer to fit "Brakes" to your car. I've found they work better than any "Hill Descent Control" systems out there!

Unless, of course, you plan to walk alongside your car while its going down the hill?

Brakes are an optional extra, and they charge more if you want them to work :-o

I think they come as standard these days don't they?

Are you in the "ordering" stage or the "I want one .. what toys do I get if I do get one?" stage?

must admit that on sheet ice last winter on a hill hdc worked much better than even my best attempts at gentle braking. i was quite surprised.

it does work well. it uses engine braking in first gear, combined with restricting engine speed.

I ordered a D5 teknik, roof, fenrir wheels, towbar, and a little bling, last week arrives Feb and the dealer wants to know now if I want HDC

.

And there's not much ice in Melbourne. :-)
