Why not insert the key upside down?

It sounds as though it's been reconnected in the wrong way. Upside down or not the first position is only for anciliaries. Take the lower shroud of and do a visual. The tumbler position should make no difference afak. If I get time today I will take a photo of switch connections.
Point 1. The key does go in "upside down"
Check the photo for connections but ignore the lower white wire.
