Unhappy Cambelt failure.....

Anyone out there ever survived a timing belt failure?
Is there any hope the engine isn't goosed? It went at fairly low speed - under 40mph on a downshift.

I can't remember isn't the 940 a "non Interference" Engine ???

Migrator or Brian will be along in a bit to confirm

Changed 4 years ago by previous owner. Hadn't put enough mileage on myself to be thinking a change was imminently required.

Diesel engines (740, 940, 760) are very much interference engines I believe.

That's why when I did the headgasket on mine, I also did the timing belt even though it only had 30,000 on it. I have to be honest - I doubt everything is as straight as it should be now..

Let us know what happens. If you can find a secondhand complete head, you could bring it back to life!
