Question Silly question - bolt for shock absorber mount

The nut holding the bolt for my rear shock fell off yesterday ( 73 145 ) before I go to the trouble of jacking and taking wheel off etc would you think it would be ok to root around in my toolbox for an old nut that *might* fit it or should I try and get a replacement nut/bolt to fit the exact size?

Problem is I don't want to have to buy a packet of 12 nuts and bolts from Halfords to do this and is it dangerous to fit a nut bolt combo that *almost* fits ( ie anything I have hanging around)?

Hi, Ask if anyone has the nut off a scrap 145. It would have the correct Diameter and Thread Pitch. Volvo may also sell the nut.

Sadly I'm for real - just don't know if the shock mounting is that important - obviously it is.

if your that uninformed that you dont know if a shock mounting is important or not i would forget the diy and find yourself a competent mechanic, it might save your or more importantly someone elses life, sorry if that sounds harsh but you just should not be working on safety critical areas such as suspension/steering if you have not got a clue what you are doing.

Perhaps I should explain the fix would be just to get me home ( 25 miles low speed crawl ) I just don't want to bugger up the mount in some way in that time.
