Petrol leaking from stromburg carb!
Hi! I have a 144 1973 volvo with single stromburg carb (175 cd i think?) and i have just realised that it is leaking petrol from the bottom plug. i have taken it out of the engine and not sure where to go from here? is it as simple as just tightening the plug? thanks heap! matt

The last time this happened to me it was a problem with the valve in the float chamber, there was a tiny bit of grit stopping it from closing. Another thing to check would be that the float itself does not have hole in it.
If you are going to split the carb. to check, take great care with the gasket, or make sure that you have another on standby. |

it is none of those which you described. i decided to seal around the gap the fuel was leaking out of from the float chamber. i used a silicone rtv which withstands heat up to 350 degrees celcius. However i have just been told that silicone and petrol dont go to well together! Is this true and if so what should i use to seal the leak? I have yet to try it out as it is still drying.
