Pirelli PZero Rosso
These are fitted to my 2011 Exec.
Just been out in the snow for first time - two sphincter twitching moments approaching roundabouts this morning. Depite travelling cautiously, the ABS had to work like billyo with my foot hard on the pedal to stop the car. Phew!!!!! And this was on the slushy stuff. These tyres are hopeless - I have absolutely no confidence in them in snow or icy conditions. As I said in my post earlier this morning, I had previously found Nokian WRs to be excellent in snow, and I think I'll be looking to ditch these Pirellis as soon as is practical. |

Yep. Definitely wrong tyres for snow. Think about Pirelli scorpion snow and mud marked. Have them on mine and they pretty good.

strbryan,
The tone of your reply is that it should be obvious, and since I have previously used Nokian WR M&S tyres, (see my post earlier today) I am aware of the performance differences between summer and winter tyres, but there may be others who don't know just how poor these Volvo fitted tyres are in the snow. I honestly didn't think they would be soooo bad. I wasn't expecting anything special, but to have virtually no grip at all at low speed was frightening. I wasn't told by Volvo not to drive in the snow on the setup they provided. The purpose of my post was to serve as a warning to anyone else using these particular tyres today. |

Winter tyres essential
We live in the Scottish Borders and we do ski-drive to Austria regularly.
AWD is not the be all & end all. I would rather have 2wd with winter tyres fitted (all round) than AWD with standard summer tyres. It's a simple and undeniable fact. We run Pirelli Scorpion Ice & Snow in the winter. And Nokians in the summer. The dealer changes them for us in November & March. They even valet the car for us every time. We've never used the snow chains and, believe us, the gradients and edge of the mountain stuff in the Austrian Alps (road up to Thierbach, Wildschonau) is the kind of driving that makes your legs start to shake. Unfortunately got to agree with others pirelli Pzero is a hopeless tyre not only on big 4x4 but had it fitted to wifes A class(FWD) only when they were changed to Michelins did we appreciate how bad they were!!
